Fitbit’s Social Media Guidelines for Sponsored Content

We love hearing about our users’ experiences on social media. Before you post anything, however, we ask that you make sure your post is truthful and non-deceptive.

It’s your responsibility to comply with the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Endorsement Guides, along with the terms and conditions for any social media platforms that you use to discuss Fitbit products. We have provided for your convenience some of the most important rules of the road:

If we have given you a product to try, invited you to a special event, or paid or otherwise incentivized you to promote our products, anything you post about Fitbit or our products is considered “sponsored”—be it in a product review, blog, podcast, online forum, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Twitter, etc.

All sponsored content should be transparent, truthful and non-deceptive. Additionally, it’s your responsibility to comply with the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Endorsement Guides. Here are some of the most important rules of the road:

Disclose Your Relationship to Fitbit

Your post should make your relationship with us clear, so that customers who view your post understand the context in which you created it. You can do this in any number of ways, such as by saying “Fitbit gave me [PRODUCT],” or by using a hashtag such as #giftfromfitbit, #ad, #sponsored, or #paid. Some of our influencers prefer to use #TeamFitbit.

Your disclosure should be clear and conspicuous, meaning in a readable font, in a place that viewers will see it, and in close proximity to the sponsored content—it should not be hidden beneath a “More” link, in the comment section, in the middle of a video, etc. The Federal Trade Commission’s FAQ’s provide additional do’s and don’ts as to how and where to make this kind of disclosure.

Speak Truthfully Using Substantiated Claims

Our products have a lot of great features that we’d love for you to try out and discuss with your followers. However, it is important that you describe our products accurately using substantiated claims.

For example, some but not all of our products can store and play music—unless you know (from using the product, through the packaging, or through another communication from us) that the product you received can play music, you should not state in your post that it has that capability.

You should also be honest about your own experience using the product. If you love listening to music through your Fitbit, that’s great! If you don’t, then don’t write a post saying that you do.

Our products are designed to promote health and fitness, and we believe that they do.

However, it’s important that we pre-approve any statements discussing health benefits associated with our products.

Fitbit’s Moderation of Sponsored Content

Fitbit monitors social media content relating to our business, including sponsored posts. If we believe that your statements or claims are false or misleading, we will contact you for a correction, and may consider ending our relationship with you.

Ultimately, it is your responsibility to make sure that your post is honest, transparent, truthful, and compliant with applicable laws and with the terms and conditions for the social media platforms where you post.
